Song Bum-keun, who returned to Jeonbuk Hyundai, is aiming for the K League 1 'No. 1' position.

Song Bum-keun, who joined Jeonbuk in 2018 and took the professional stage, set a new record for the most clean sheets in a single K-League 1 season by taking the main goalkeeper from his first season and led Jeonbuk to win the K-League 1. During the season, he participated in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and had his best year with the gold medal around his neck.

Afterwards, Song added four K League 1 and two Korea Cups, before moving to Shonan Belmare, a J1 League team, in 2023. However, Song was relegated to the second goalkeeper from Shonan's second season, and returned to Jeonbuk to fill the void of Kim Joon-hong, who left for DC United ahead of this season.

"I don't feel awkward at all," said Song Bum-keun, who conducted the interview in Bangkok. "There are many people who know about the team and the players are older than me when I was in Jeonbuk. As time went by, I think I was able to adapt to the team faster."

Regarding his experience playing in Shonan, he said, "The J1 League can experience a lot in that part because he can play different soccer, and I can learn a lot from that experience. If it wasn't hard, it's a lie, but there was definitely something I could learn as much as it was a hard time, and I want to show you a better performance in the K-League."

"I participated in the build-up in Shonan more than I did in the back build-up in Jeonbuk. I learned a lot about how to cover the back space and how to run the game because I put pressure on the front. I think I can say something has been upgraded," he added.

Jeonbuk, however, suffered a hard time after Song Bum-keun left the team. Notably, it barely remained in the K League 1 last season after going through the promotion and playoffs. "It was a pity as a friendly team. It was a team that kept winning, and it was very upsetting as difficult times overlapped," Song said.

"I don't think that's what happened to the team without me," he said. "It's because missing one player doesn't mean the team will be shaken. As a player who fought for the relegation zone in Shonan, I would have felt like a cliff in every game. Still, I had confidence that I would survive until the end."

This season, Jeonbuk made changes by appointing Gus Foye, the coach, and even bringing in Michael Kim, the director. "The first thing the coach said was the ability to defend and coordinate defense," Song Bum-keun said. "He also talked about the ability of cross defense and the ability to care for the back space, and the last thing he said was build-up."

He added, "He's a cool guy. He points out the basics thoroughly and clearly tells us what we need to do. We have clearly sorted out what we need to do. Now it's up to the players. We just have to do that. We have trust and trust in that area."

Song Bum-keun returned to Jeonbuk and aimed to return to the national team and challenge for the best goalkeeper in the K League 1 against Cho Hyun-woo (Ulsan HD). "The call-up of the national team is very important to me," he said. "We have to show that good performance and it was a big part of choosing to return to Jeonbuk."

"I respect (Cho) Hyun-woo. Seeing him win the MVP gave me a dream. I thought that I wanted to go the way that Hyun-woo hyung went, rather than saying that I have to overcome as a goalkeeper. I get motivated to think, 'I should become that kind of player as well. I will try my best." 안전놀이터

Finally, Song Bum-keun said, "I think it would be great to win again. I am following the training parts and the coach's demands without complaints. I have high expectations. A lot of spectators come into the stadium. It is up to us to make it a feast. If we do well in what we have prepared, we will have good results."
